As many of you will know, I do a lot of work with the Baptist Union of Scotland, particularly within the Young People’s department (time permitting!). Well, summer is always the busiest time of year for BUSY, with firstly, Sports Day, and secondly, Step Out. Well Sports Day has been and gone, so I’m going to tell you about Step Out.
Step Out is the Baptist Union of Scotland Young People’s missions programme, sending teams to work (mostly) with Baptist churches across the country on mission (mostly) with children and teenagers. It spans the whole seven weeks of Scotland’s summer holidays and stretches, this year, from Lossiemouth in the north to Peterhead in the east, to Wigtown in the south and west. That’s by no means the furthest it has ever spread, but it’s still a fair distance. Anyway, the reason I mention it is because a) it starts this weekend and b) I am leading two Step Out missions.
So, firstly, if you want to keep up to date with the Step Out missions over the summer, head on over to the Step Out 2010 page on the BUSY website. The page will be updated with information on who’s out where, what’s going on and the odd prayer point too.
Secondly, the two missions I’m leading. The first mission is in Leslie, 11th – 18th July, where I am leading with a guy from Leven Baptist Church. Then, from 18th – 25th July, I’ll be leading the Wigtown team, with a little assistance from a fellow member at Castlehill Baptist Church. She can pick me up off the floor when I’m exhausted. And come up with lots of ideas. Anyway, here are a few things to pray for:
- Planning for the two missions – we’re doing youth work and children’ work in Leslie, lots of youth work in Wigtown.
- Travel – It’s complicated, especially for Wigtown.
- Energy – I’m flat out right now, with many things. Right now, I don’t have the energy for two weeks away on mission. I need it!
- The team – there’s a few I haven’t worked with before. In fact, most of them I haven’t, although I’ve known some of them for a long time. Right now, at 1am, I’m a little hazy as to who’s on my teams. Maybe I need to look at that one again!
- The young people – always good to pray for open hearts and minds and that through God’s work, that they would be transformed by the renewing of their minds in Christ Jesus (Romans 12:2).
I think that’s it, to be honest. I’ll probably post something more closer to the time.
